Benefits of Using the Right Web Directories

In a similar fashion to normal directories, such as the Yellow Pages, a web directory is able to feature listings of websites split into different categories for ease in locating the relevant information. If you are searching for something online then using one of the better quality web directories is just as effective as using a physical of hard copy. A web directory can offer online businesses a wide range of benefits, which might relate to search engine ranking, web traffic and increased profitability.
Here are some of the benefits that you might realize from submitting your website to a web directory.
Increased traffic
In most cases, the main directories attract a high volume of traffic to their sites on a daily basis. Site visitors have access to easily search the different categories, which allows them to connect direct to all-types of websites. This increased traffic for the webmaster is the most significant benefit to adding a link to the web directory. To ensure you get the most from submitting your site to the directories, you should always look for the best quality directories that attract a considerable number of daily visitors.
Search engines
By submitting your site to the directories, you are also making it easier for the search engines to detect your website and increase its natural ranking in the search results. Due to the size of the directories and the almost constant updating of information, the spiders sent by the search engines are highly likely to detect your site and have that link indexed.
Higher Rankings
If your website is placed on the directories then you might be able to optimize certain keywords that you wish to have ranked in the search engines. Use descriptive text for the anchor text link that connects to your website. Use a phrase that clearly identifies the function offered by your web site. If you go to the effort of providing a well written description then this should also help in attracting a higher click-through rate, which means you get a lot more visitors to your website.
Increase Site Credibility
If you are able to get a site listed on the top web directories then that can increase the credibility of your web site. In most cases, the better quality websites vet and review the submissions to determine the quality of a site. Human edited directories are a lot more valued and this also means that visitors will trust the information that they read on directory and be more willing to click-through to a particular web site.

Advantages of Using SEO Directory Submissions

If you are searching for effective ways to promote your website, you might want to look at the general, niche, or business web directories. Any of these can feature in a SEO marketing plan. They web directory offers the web visitor a convenient one stop destination for locating a wide-range of useful information. In addition, for the webmaster, the directories offer the advantage of increasing a websites visibility and search engine ranking.
A web directory which is based on a specific niche or business practice offers a great opportunity to submit your website listing and have the potential to attract visitors. A quality directory will allow its visitors to search by location or category, which makes it extremely easy for the user to find the most helpful information. Also if you use a specific business directory you might be able to list additional company information which might include a company overview, directions, a logo, and all relevant contact information.
Beyond the fact that the web directories are highly effective at attracting would-be customers, they are equally beneficial as a tool in your search engine optimization (SEO) arsenal. A directory offers the site owner a chance to get an attractive inbound link to their website, which has the potential to increase rankings in the search engines and page rank of the applicable page. If a well-chosen selection of directories is used, then this can result in a number of inbound links coming into a website. Using the directories when a website is relatively new is also a great way to get the search engines to notice a site quickly and this also helps get the web pages indexed.
A great feature to the web directories that you might want to look for is the ability to add deep links, meaning you can point to a particular page on the website and not direct all visitors to the main homepage. The benefit of this is that the end-user is directed straight to the information you want them to see in a single click, and not having to search for the information themselves after arriving on your site. A link of this nature is much more efficient and helpful. The ability to deep link also means that you have the opportunity to rank internal pages and not just the homepage.
It often benefits to search for the quality web directories in your linking building efforts to avoid wasting valuable time. You can use either free or paid web directories. If looking for the most positive results from submitting your sites to the directories, it often pays to use the high quality directories that are human edited, even though this might mean a small charge is payable for the submission.

The Best Practices for Content Marketing and Its Effect on SEO

A lot has been said about content marketing and its impact on overall SEO efforts. In most of these articles, people talk about writing two types of contents, writing for human readers and writing for Google and other search engines. It is time that we change this old idea and realize the need of the hour. Trust me, a lot has changed after recent Google updates and web content is one thing which has received the major share of Google's attention.
Google recently changed algorithm, like I pointed out earlier, which helps them to find out the most useful content for a given search query. How they achieved that is another topic altogether. And with a closely guarded algorithm, we can't do anything but guess. Leaving the technicality behind, lets talk about the effect.
Write for the human readers: The first thing to consider is that, according to Google itself, do not write for Google. Do not write even keeping Google in mind. Just write some great content which the human readers will like and your duty is 90% done. Google wants to present to the searcher with the most relevant, most informative and most useful article or webpage and so they will of course place articles displaying those traits at the top.
Think of 'WHY' before writing any content: Nobody likes to read useless information, no matter how well or creatively you have written them. The same is applicable for Google. Google doesn't want to present these pages to the readers as well. So, before you create any online content, have a very clear purpose behind creating the page. Once you have a definite purpose and you know what are you going to share with the world by creating this page, obviously your content will be pithy, useful and relevant. These contents are for sure to get a good ranking in Google.
Socially shared content: This is the latest point which I would include as the last point in this article. In this social age, the more people like your content using Google +1 or Facebook 'Like' and other social media, the better it is in the eyes of Google. Also, if your content is getting shared, referred to in the prominent social media, Google will consider this as a sign of a great content. On a technical note, never miss to have those Facebook, Google+, Twitter buttons on your webpage. Display them prominently so people can actually click on them easily if they like your content.

Know Search Engine Optimization

If you are considering building a website you most likely have heard that Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is a pivotal part of your strategy. It is essential for improving website visibility, increasing your traffic and overall way search engines view your website. SEO is the ongoing process of improving visibility and ranking of a website or specific web page in the organic search engine results presented by major search engines.
You might think that SEO is the all-knowing answer and can produce major results in a few days, or even a few months, like web page design or coding. Search engines utilize a complex algorithm which determines the results for any given search term, word or phrase. The actual algorithm is known to exist but unknown by anyone but those folks at the search engine.
The Elements - The steady insertion of meta tags and page titles of web pages used to have a huge impact on search results, and were considered the mainstay of SEO about 10 years ago. These SEO components are still important today - but the algorithms used by search engines continually change to adapt to a constantly evolving internet. Meta tags, page titles, and search friendly Unit Resource Locator (URLs) are a major part of on-site SEO.
Page Titles - Page titles are found at the very top of a browser, and depending upon the version they can also be read in the window label or tab of an open web page. Another way to find out the title of a web page is to put it in your bookmarks. It is important to title all web pages consistently, using the key terms that you want visitors to find your site with, and should match the key terms found in your written website content as well.
Meta Tags and Meta Descriptions - Meta tags are done in the html code side of the website at the head of the page, although it's easier and generally done with a Content Management System (CMS). These Meta tags alert the search engine as to which terms on that particular web page are the most important. Meta tags for picked keywords are only good if they are reinforced by also being within the web page content. Search engines look for significance in ranking your pages and this is one of the basic methods of demonstrating relevance.
Valuable, Worthwhile Content - Strategies like filling up your web site pages with fluff and clichés may be the good for TV commercials but is not so useful for search engine or human consumption. Useful, original, well-written content is more valuable as a component of a web page and websites as a whole.
Off-Site SEO and how it Works - The biggest difference between on-site SEO and Off-site SEO is that the other can be completely coordinated by you and the latter cannot. However, there are well-defined approaches and techniques in Offsite SEO that can maximize the opportunity for online success. Mostly the success of any offsite technique is driven by the quality of the content, whether it is an article, press release blog post, video etc.
Two-way Links and Link Exchange - Search engines use this to control the ranking of a website in search results which is heavily gauged by how many legitimate inbound links a website has. Quality relationships with relative content website owners is key here where you can connect and build links between the sites generating to the search engine the relationship of the content.
Deep Links - Deep links are one-way inbound links from websites with relative quality content, with one small but extremely important difference. Deep links are connected to an inner content page within your website, rather than the homepage, landing page, or other front page of a website, which is much more common.
Is There A Faster Way - Performing your due diligence and continually working on your website may be tedious at first, as well may take a while depending on the subject matter. But the continual work on SEO will provide a solid website to the search engines as well survive any changes to the search engine algorithm which may come down the road.
There are alternatives to use, but SEO is the best strategy for your website. Hope this article helped you know more about SEO.

How Many Keywords Should Be in My Meta Tags?

One of the biggest questions that a beginner may have is how many keywords should be in their meta-tags. To be brutally honest, most people get this completely wrong and end up damaging themselves in the process. This is an unfortunate situation that can be avoided with proper education before the problem becomes a problem. Therefore, if you pay attention to this article it would definitely help you stay away from this problem now and in the future.
Let us just start out by saying that there should be no more than 10 keywords in your meta-keywords it is very tempting to have more keywords in this section. However, the search engines tend to see this as spam content. Therefore, the search engines will not place relevance upon whatever page the meta-keywords are placed on in the future or in the present.
The truth is that many people try to spam the meta-keywords for extra SEO rankings. However, this started to be a problem for the search engines because they could not tell what sites were relevant based on meta-keywords. Therefore, they stop placing as much relevance on the keywords as stated before. However, this did not stop the business practice of adding as many keywords as possible into a keyword section.
The search engine started penalizing sites for spamming there keyword section. Many of the sites that follow this business practice have experienced penalization and decrease ranking. Therefore, it does not make sense to add more than 10 keywords in the meta-keyword section. Doing so will only enhance the possibility of the website being seen as a spam website.
The best thing to do when trying to get rankings for your website is try to follow the search engine's guidelines as closely as possible as this will help you to avoid any spam penalties. This includes staying away from spamming the keyword section on a website. A smart optimizer will use a keyword section to diversify their terms that a page is relevant about without adding too much context to the particular tag.
It is also not smart to repeat keywords in the keyword section. Since you only have 10 words to play with you need to be very selective about which ones you choose. It does not help to repeat the same keyword over and over. This also causes a spam penalty on the website. Therefore, it makes a lot of sense for a business owner or a search engine Optimizer to be very careful about what keywords they put into the section.
Finally, if you are really pressed and need to add more keywords you should not add more than 15 keywords in your meta-keywords section. That is the absolute top amount of keywords that you should have on a page. Most of the smartest search engine optimizers do not go to this level. However, it can be done.
In closing, a person who is interested in having good rankings on the search engines understands that they need to be careful about what keywords they place on a particular webpage. If a person should be very careful about what terms they put on a page. They will avoid spam penalties from the search engines and give themselves the best chance that they could possibly have to get rankings on the search engines.

Experts Suggest Link Directory Submission Process To Get More One Way Links

Experts Suggest Link Directory Submission Process To Get More One Way Links Experts Suggest Link Directory Submission Process To Get More One Way Links by Tom Dahne

SEO experts suggest link directory submission process that will improve your numbers - in terms of link backs dramatically. Many newbie webmasters and even the veterans follow an arbitrary process of link directory submissions.

They do not have a process
1. To check if they have submitted their links correctly,

2. If it has been accepted?

3. Is the link pointing to the correct page?

4. Are the titles and descriptions what you want?

They submit the links and forget about it.

If you wish to get top rankings for your website on the search engines this kind of haphazard and half-hearted measures won't work.

Experts suggest link directory submission process that follows a step-by-step approach to getting one-way links.

1. Make sure you choose SEO friendly web directory. The one-way links should be direct, static, and SEO-friendly. Javascripts, robots no follow tags means you won't get any SEO benefit from the link back.

2. Find the best category/sub-category for your web site link. Browse or use search to find the best page to place your link. The page should contain relevant material to your niche and is one or two clicks away from the home page of the directory. Burying your link 10 pages deep won't give you much benefit.

3. Pay attention to your title and description for your website link. Don't think you have to stuff them with keywords. Write in a normal, catchy and descriptive manner with keywords naturally thrown in.

4. Write multiple titles, descriptions with various keywords and mixed. Have at least 10-15 variations. When submitting mix and match titles and descriptions. If search engines find hundreds of links with the same anchor text and description they will simply discount the links. It will be waste of your time and effort to submit to these sites.

5. Make sure your website is completed in all respects. Human editors may not like to see under-construction or broken link pages. They may reject your site submission for these reasons.

6. Make your link directory submission and note the web directory URL and category under which you have submitted the page.

7. About a week later check that your link has been listed in the correct directory category, with the description and title of your choice.

8. If you feel that it has been listed in wrong category or some other issue write to the editors to make the required correction. Best is to ensure that you follow all their guidelines and submit the human friendly title and description.

9. Look for niche directories that accept only links from particular niche categories.

10. Make your title and description catchy enough that when a human visitor chances upon it, they will click on it.

Repeat the process. Experts suggest link directory submission targets for every week. Say you set a target 15 one-way links per week.

Over time you will notice that this process comes automatically to you and you will be getting quality one-way links that are SEO friendly. Experts suggest link directory submission process to become part of your daily routine. You will start noticing results with in a month and in less than a year you should be dominating your niche.

Six Great SEO Tips For 2012 and Beyond

Search engine optimisation is constantly changing with each new technology, and it is important to keep your techniques updated. This article will give you some new methods of keeping your site known to search engines and relevant to customers.
1. Use the optimal keywords. Keywords have always been an important part of SEO but now there are databases you can use to help you find the best words and phrases to use. Google AdWords Keyword Tool, for example, is a tool you can use to find out what people are searching for. Simply plugin a keyword you are considering using and the service will respond by displaying a list similar keywords and the number of searches for each. You might use the keyword "automotive parts" at first, but using AdWords or a similar service can show you a better choice. If you find out that it is better to separate the two words, or that for every search for "automotive parts" there are ten searches for "car parts." Now that these types of tools are available, you can see what people are searching for and, by tweaking our keywords, become more relevant to those searches.
2. Concentrate on "On Page" SEO. "On Page" SEO simply means adjusting your website to be easily searchable. One part of this is using content that a search engine can see and understand. If some of your content is in a format such as .PDF, the search engine cannot see the text that is written there and, since it doesn't know what your page is about, it will not send related traffic your way. If you are planning or are already using a format that is seldom used then it would be wise to check into whether or not it is SEO comparable. Put some research into On Page SEO so that you can learn all the different tactics; meta tags, title tags, keyword use, and linking are all things you can adjust easily on your website to make it more searchable.
3. Use mobile SEO. Presenting your website to mobile devices has been tough in the past, but with the advancements in tablet and cell phone technology is making it easier. By making your website compatible with these devices, you can invite even more traffic your way. Use small file sizes, avoid using Adobe Flash, and use the .jpg format for any pictures you use. A little time spent researching and implementing techniques for mobile SEO can pay off.
4. Try video SEO. You may have noticed that when you search for certain things on Google, videos or pictures are among listings at the top of the page. By using video SEO correctly, you can sneak to the top of the page among the video thumbnails. Video SEO simply refers to the techniques used to make sure Google finds, indexes, and returns keyword searches with your video. Once you have a video on your page, create a "video site map" and submit it to Google so they know where your videos are and what they contain. Also use a Google-friendly format, which includes .wmv, .mpg, and others. Using titles and tags in your video's coding helps as well; the key to naming and describing your video is to, unlike website keywords, use longer specific phrases. For example, instead of using the simple title "back flip", use something with more description, such as "guy does back flip off of boat into water".
5. Make sure your site loads quickly. Although this is a factor in ranking for most search engines, a higher load time won't affect your rank much, unless the wait is extreme or the search engine can't load and index your website. Find a happy medium between a short load time and great content.
6. Update your site often. This is particularly important if you are just starting an online business. Continually posting new content to your site can help strengthen your chances of keeping your spot in search results. The more fresh and relevant your content is, the higher your rank. Trying new SEO techniques can make sure your website keeps a high-ranking instead of sliding down with each change the search engines make to their algorithms. While it's impossible to be updated all the time, the tips listed in this article should get you closer to that goal.

How to Recover From Over Optimization

Currently throughout the world, a huge argument is being conducted that pertains to search engine optimization. It refers to negative SEO which brings about a horrifying change globally. This latest and famous occurrence is created by Google's Penguin update. They found that several well-known websites face a horrific dilemma. They set themselves on top of Google search list just 3 months ago but however they discovered themselves moved out to the 6-10 pages seven days ago. It's a horrible jolt for those sites.
Now the question rises what is the reason behind this incident? If we deeply observe those sites we will find that they are involved with link building which is an illegal business. They spread spammed links with some other sites. They make an effort to produce awful back linking within their sites and that's why they are in the first page of Google.
Matt Cutts, a spam engineer of Google mentioned that they have tried to clear out those nasty links and supply appropriate ranking. Because there are many established websites those are really worthy of their high quality information. But irony of fate is that those are not available on the front page. So they are making an effort to improve their system for those helpful sites.
Let's discuss about over optimization. Maximum sites try to get more visitors. If they receive higher rate of visitors although their content quality and SEO ranking is poor, when Google compare them with stability sheet and they become over optimized. But a lot of sites are infected by SEO hackers and become displaced. For this reason, web engineers identify the problem and published how to prevent over optimization in their blogs. The procedure is easy but needs time and tactical steps.
The recovery systems for the sites those are facing over optimization problem are...
· Webmaster tools by Google
· Social sharing
· Search engines vs humans
· Site accessibility and structure
· Quality content
· Links
Short descriptions of those are stated below:
The quality of the content depends on the style, distribution and arrangement of the idea. It prefers the perfect idea, proper expression of it and also the better form. Like, the site must be arranged in such a way that will be not only easily understandable by the visitor but also informative. Appropriate answers must be provided for enhancing the content quality.
Link building should have legitimate function. Obtaining links from spamming sites can be hazardous. Anchor and key terms must be maintained to prevent spamming. Ensure availability of those links.
For sharing, you must use well known social media sites such as Facebook, Google+, LinkedIn, Twitter, Inbound.org, and Stumble Upon etc. In Facebook, only tag those people who are related to the subject, for tweet or retweet only owner circle should be used and Google+ update methods can also be helpful.
Site map is essential to get an overview idea of the site and it's also important to prevent it from being hacked. It must be built in such a way that only human beings are allowed to access it, not the robots.
Webmaster tools by Google should be used for searching necessary items for the topics.
It should be arranged in a way that would be suitable for human to find out their desired content easily. It must contain appropriate keywords for easy searching.
So as a website owner, you should be honest, must not make any spam and should give the priority for human so that they can get useful information.

Does the Penguin Update Change Your Optimization Strategy?

Google has been very busy with its algorithm development, releasing many new changes since the start of the year. Most updates have been geared towards reducing spam websites that rank high in search results due to unethical SEO practices. While this is good in the long run, the unfortunate downside is that many honest websites that simply follow standard SEO practices and been popular in the past have now been affected. This was initially seen with the ongoing Panda algorithm releases; however, it is even more evident with Google's Penguin update which has created problems for some; however, proper SEO should remain unaffected.
Content Responsibility
With all of these changes; and Penguin coming right on the heels of Panda, it basically points to only one thing - website owners must take responsibility that content is high quality and useful to visitors - period. This is a point that has been emphasized by a few SEO specialists over the past year or so that was largely ignored because the more unethical SEO such as the keyword stuffing and buying backlinks was working so well.
Cheating was working just fine - but no longer as Google has started to put on the brakes. All such websites that were doing so well in optimization through manipulative SEO practices are sliding further and further down in the search results. Websites employing more honest methods are going up without having to do anything. If there is any proof that honest, organic SEO can indeed work, this is it.
Plan Review
This means that SEO plans must be carefully reviewed and adjustments made in order to better comply with the even more aggressive filtering algorithms being seen with Penguin. Google wants websites to return to how they were before all of the uproar about using extreme SEO tactics to defeat the competition through an increased ability to attract browsers. Such bad SEO tactics will still definitely attract browsers with Penguin - the results just may not be what was wanted if a website winds up being banned.
Content
To remedy such issues, the emphasis seems to be on having a normal, easy-to-read website. Imagine that! Content that is relevant and holds value is more essential than ever as opposed to pages and pages of content that say nothing. Keyword stuffing is becoming taboo, as Penguin and Panda have been targeting sites obviously overfilled. Even domain names with keywords and unnatural sounding titles and text have been triggering Penguin's alarms - and all of this is significant. It truly does mean that SEO specialists need to go back to the beginning and re-evaluate what websites contain to weed out keyword overuse and useless links.
Until more is known about Penguin effect on websites in the long run since Google has not issued any kind of statement on exactly what the update means, those seeing the results firsthand already agree that it is time to clean things up. Content, headers and captions need to read naturally as does everything else relating to a website. Excessive optimization needs to be removed. Concentration should be more on information rather than keywords. After all, information is what the internet is all about.
Before Penguin can negatively affect any more sites, it is time to go back and review SEO strategies and opt for more simple tactics. Let the information speak for itself while SEO simply supports it. Just make sure that what is being said is worth a reader's unswerving attention. So pay attention to the Penguin update - it may be affecting an existing optimization strategy right now!

How Google's Panda And Penguin Updates Are Changing SEO

Google's Panda and Penguin algorithm updates have really upset many small business and blog owners. Many websites that once ranked highly for specific keywords are no longer listed in the top pages on Google's search engine. In some cases sites were knocked back several hundred pages. What most people do not realize is, the updates are not a penalty and are strictly algorithmic. What this means is, you are wasting your time trying to clean up some things on your site and then submitting a reconsideration request to Google. A manual penalty is much more severe and would warrant a reconsideration request. The algorithm updates are devaluing sites based on over-optimization, blackhat SEO techniques and spam.
Some sites actually benefited from the updates because they moved up in rankings when the other sites plummeted in ranking. Imagine being a blog owner with a site that gets ten to twenty visitors a month and out of the blue you are now getting hundreds if not thousands of visitors daily. That is simply the power of Google, but it also underscores the importance of not having all your eggs in one basket. A carefully designed traffic strategy should always rely on receiving traffic from multiple sources. Organic traffic is great, but when you are at risk of the latest Google algorithm update damaging your rankings, it just does not make good sense to focus solely on search traffic.
What are Panda and Penguin?
The Penguin and Panda updates were created by Google to target low quality websites that were violating Google's guidelines. To be more specific the list below will give you an idea of the types of things the updates were attempting to filter from Google's search engine.
1. Site's that containing low quality content - This can consist of duplicate content or poorly spun articles., product pages that have no unique information, articles on the same subject as those already written and short articles that add no real value to the website.
2. Spammy sites - Site's that are full of web spam that consist of link schemes, cloaking, keyword stuffing and any tactics that suggest site content can't stand alone.
3. Over-Optimization - An example of this is a site littered with the same keyword all over the place. There's no relevant content to the keyword and in most cases the page is filled with affiliate links, contextual advertising and any other monetization efforts.
Useful Tips
If you have been affected by the updates or you hope to avoid losing rankings from future updates the following guidelines below should be followed:
1. Do not over-optimize your pages - Avoid keyword stuffing in hopes of ranking well for that keyword. Google's search algorithm is smart enough to know what the content of your page is about, so there is no need to over do it. In fact, I would strive to have no more than two to three keywords in a 700 word article.
2. Create a unique backlink profile - Ensure that your backlinks come from a variety of sources. Natural backlinks is the best route to go, but many site owners are trying to compete for higher rankings. If you decide to generate backlinks make sure your backlink profile consists of blog posts, guest posting, bookmarks, article directories and links from social networks.
3. Quality content is a must - This is a no brainer. If you create quality content, Google will reward you for it. Also, quality content brings visitors. There's no better way to generate natural backlinks then creating content that people want to link to and share on social websites.
Ranking highly on search engines takes work, but it's not rocket science. The days of cutting corners are over and Google is serious about creating a more quality search experience for its search engine users. Many private blog networks have been put out of business for using blackhat SEO tricks that went against Google's guidelines. Going forward, it just does not make sense to try and game the system. High quality content will bring you natural links over time that will rarely be at risk of hurting your site. Also, keep in mind that quality content is important, but what's more important is ensuring that you focus your traffic generating efforts from multiple sources so all your eggs are not in one basket.

Website Success, the Google Algorithm, PageRank and Keyword Difficulty

Ever wondered why your website is not on the top Google results page for your prized keywords? The answer lies in website popularity.
Top Positioning and the Google Algorithm
Google gauges website and webpage popularity, also called authority, by links from other websites. PageRank is Google's evaluation of the popularity of a webpage. Webpage positioning for a keyword in Google's search engine results pages is determined by the Google algorithm: Popularity carries greater weight than content.
PageRank and Keyword Difficulty
A newly indexed webpage has PageRank 0 and the most popular webpages have PageRank 10. PageRank is on a logarithmic scale. A webpage on a website with high popularity will be positioned above a webpage on a lower popularity website, everything else being equal.
Many top positioned webpages for desirable keywords have PageRank 0 and this leads most web professionals to question the value of PageRank. Others believe that PageRank is the top factor in the Google algorithm and it provides the best indication of keyword difficulty. Keyword difficulty is an indication of the competitive strength of the top webpages for that keyword.
Several keyword difficulty tools incorporate webpage PageRank to evaluate competition. In one eBook, the PageRanks of the top 10 webpages on Google for the keyword 'Soundbar Reviews' were:
8+4+2+0+1+1+1+9+5+8 = 39/10 = 3.9 average.
This example would support those who question the value of PageRank.
HomePage PageRank
The current HomePage PageRanks for the top webpages for 'Soundbar Reviews' are
6+4+4+7+6+6+5+8+4+5 = 5.5 average.
HomePage PageRank seems to be a better indicator of keyword difficulty than the PageRank of the page. Google tells us that PageRank of websites as well as PageRank of webpages are important. The PageRank of a website may mean all the incoming PageRank link juice to the website. We have no way to measure this but HomePage PageRank acts as a useful indication.
The majority of top performing webpages are on websites with PageRank of at least 4 (64% in a series of nearly 50,000). This is compelling evidence that HomePage PageRank is a major player in the Google algorithm.
The current HomePage PageRanks for the top 10 webpages on Google.co.uk for 'Windsor website designer' are:-
3+3+4+4+5+0+1+2+0+5 average =2.7
(Underlined numbers indicate that these webpages are HomePages).
The three webpages with HomePage PageRanks 0, and 1 are HomePages. Thousands of keyword analyses demonstrate that Google must be giving a boost to the effective HomePage PageRank when HomePages are competing for keywords. This works like a golf handicap system designed to level the playing field. It means small business websites have a chance to successfully compete against locality and professional directory websites that have higher popularity. The majority of top positioned webpages on websites with low HomePage PageRanks are HomePages. For SEO purposes, only the HomePage receives this boost.
Every search engine optimizer believes he knows a lot about the algorithm but the truth is that only Google holds the key. We must individually look at the evidence and come to our own conclusions.
Associated HomePage PageRank
Extensive analyses shows HomePages with PageRank less than 5, are boosted to an effective PageRank of 4.5 when they are competing for a keyword. In the analysis of 50,000 top webpages for 5,000 keywords, this boost came into play for 30% of top webpages. With this adjustment boost, the effective HomePage PageRanks for the top 10 webpages for 'Windsor website designer' becomes
4.5+3+4+4+5+4.5+4.5+5+4.5+5 average = 4.4
There are at least 200 factors in the Google algorithm. HomePage PageRank has the greatest influence particularly if one accepts the 'boost theory.' Analysing keyword difficulty using PageRank anaylysis of the webpages and corresponding HomePages on Google's top results page for a keyword is simple to do. The only way you can convince yourself one way or the other is to put it to the test.
Webpage PageRank and the Google Algorithm
A problem arises when several top webpages for a keyword are HomePages. Their adjusted average HomePage PageRanks will all be around 4.5. If we look at the examples of 'Windsor website designer', 'Manchester website designer' and 'London website designer' their respective average adjusted HomePage PageRanks are 4.4, 4.6 and 4.8.
The HomePage of a new website would be boosted to an effective HomePage PageRank of 4.5 for the keywords it targets. It is tempting to assume that if a new website was to compete for 'London website designer' with its HomePage, top page positioning could be quickly achieved.
  • For 'Windsor website designer' the average PageRank of the webpages on the top Google results page is 2.4 and two HomePages have PageRank 0.
  • The average PageRanks for 'Manchester website designer' is 3.9 and the lowest PageRank of the top webpages is 3.
  • For 'London website designer' it is 4.1 with a lowest PageRank of 2.
It becomes apparent that your HomePage needs popularity in the order of PageRank 3 or 4 to successfully compete for 'London website designer' and this will take time.
Clearly PageRank of webpages is a factor in the Google algorithm although it is not quite as powerful as HomePage PageRank. Full analysis of webpage and associated HomePage PageRanks of the webpages on the top Google results page (SERP) for your keywords shows you the popularity of your main competitors websites and webpages.
Research shows:
  • HomePage PageRank is the top factor in the Google algorithm.
  • Google boosts the effective PageRank of HomePages of low authority websites to 4.5 when they are competing for keywords.
  • Averaged HomePage PageRanks, including the boost, of the webpages on the top Google results page for a keyword is the top indicator of keyword difficulty.
  • PageRank of webpages remains an important factor in the Google algorithm.
  • Averaged PageRanks of the webpages on the top Google results page is a secondary indicator of keyword difficulty.
Website Success
Search engine optimization aims to maximize targeted visitors to a website. There are many programs and optimizers who promise that with their guidance you can reach the top on Google for any keyword you choose.
The fact is that if your competition for a keyword has high popularity as indicated by webpage and HomePage PageRanks, and you have a website has low popularity, you cannot succeed.
If you target niche keywords that are in range for your website, you will gradually increase the popularity of your websites and ever more desirable keywords can be successfully targeted. Start small and build gradually.

David has published compelling and easily verifiable evidence that HomePage PageRank is the top factor in the Google positioning algorithm and that Google provides a boosting adjustment to HomePages that are competing for a keyword. He has developed a new, essential keyword technique and corresponding tool - http://www.KeywordSEOPro.com which calculates keyword difficulty based on HomePage PageRank. How to Get More Web Site Traffic Using Only Free Methods

While there are many ways to jump start a websites traffic intake, some webmasters simply don't have the necessary resources to take action like some of the big guys. But luckily, there are a few ways to get increased web site traffic for free! You won't have to spend any of your hard earned money, yet you will be able to generate as much website traffic as you want. Sounds like a dream come true, right? Well it is! However, to make that dream a reality, you will have to motivate yourself to work harder and get more done.
Some people will tell you that paying for advertising is a lot more effective than using free methods. Well, that is often an opinion and NOT a fact. The truth is that free traffic techniques can be just as effective, if not more effective than paid methods. It really boils down to how you utilize your knowledge, as well as how well you know your target audience.
If you're trying to get a person to your website, yet you don't have a single clue about their wants or needs, you will fail. No ifs, ands, or buts about it, you will fail. Therefore, whether you take the paid or the free route, you won't get any traffic if you don't know what you're doing.
Free Method Number 1
Find some online forums and online communities and then sign-up for a free membership. Forums and online communities are an excellent source of traffic because each one will usually fit a certain demographic; thereby allowing you to narrow down your target forums. For instance, if you have a website or product that is related to anti-virus software, you wouldn't join a gardening forum, would you? Of course not. You would find software and/or PC security related forums and start posting there. As you can see, it all about finding a niche forum for your chosen niche.Don't get ahead of yourself and just start posting willy-nilly; you'll get nowhere fast. Instead, take your time, familiarize yourself with the forum, and then target an area of the forum you want to start in; usually a sub-forum. Discuss the topic at hand, give your opinion, offer advice, and just be interested in the topic; which shouldn't be too hard.
After awhile, people will start recognizing you and they will be eager to hear what you have to say; as long as you speak intelligently of course. Spend enough time in a forum and your reputation as an expert is bound to increase. Also, always have a signature attached to your posts. You never know who might be looking. Remember, every little bit helps.
Free Method Number 2
Another great, yet marginal, method is link exchanging and directory submission. Some people think directory submission is not worth the hassle, while other internet marketers believe this to be a great technique. It really depends on the directories you submit to and how many of them you actually submit to. Some of them have higher PR (page rank) than others, so each person's results will vary. However, no one can deny the fact that having their link on a PR8+ website is a wonderful thing. On the flip side, link exchanging involves you contacting webmasters with a niche website similar to yours and then requesting a link exchange from them. They put your link on their website, and you put theirs on your site. You both get a one way link and you may even get a little bit of traffic out of the deal. It's really not a bad method, but it should still be used in moderation.
Although directory submission is very much alive, many people consider webmaster-to-webmaster link exchanges to be dead. Whether that is actually true or not remains to be unseen. But the odds are good that a few webmasters are still doing it somewhere.
Free Method Number 3
Perhaps the greatest free traffic method ever is article marketing. Article marketing is free, simple, and undeniably powerful. Getting increased web site traffic is truly a breeze with a keyword rich, well distributed article.Articles are usually quick & to the point, which is exactly the type of information the average websurfer craves. Most people don't want to read a 20 page report about a topic, let alone a 3000 word article. Instead, they would rather read a short, yet informative article that tells them everything they need to know. This is exactly where you come in, as you will write the small informative article, provide the reader with the necessary information, and then offer even more information or a great deal in return for reading your article. If they like the article, they will be thrilled with your offer and they'll click on the link in your resource box, which will then lead them to your web site.
The vital pieces of a good article are: keywords, unique content, great title, wide distribution, and an outstanding resource box. If you can put all those pieces together to create one article, you will get more web site traffic than you can imagine.

Free Method Number 4
Having great, unique web site content is the biggest rival to article marketing, as it too can be an EXTREMELY effective method of generating traffic. This method is a lot like article marketing too; you must use highly searched (low competition) keywords, you need to have unique content, and you have to provide the visitor with information and keep them interested at the same time. The only difference here is that the content will be only your web site and not on an article directory.Search engines scour the internet for websites with updated, unique content and then they add those sites to their listings. When a person does a search for a specific keyword, the most relevant websites are displayed. Therefore, your goal is to turn your site into one of those "most relevant" websites. If you can do that, generating free traffic hits won't be a problem.
Start using the 4 free methods above and you will have increased web site traffic within just a few weeks, guaranteed!

The Advantage Of Using Link Directories For SEO

Do you know that much about SEO? Do you understand that the more links you get back to your site will mean the better your site will look in the eyes of the search engines? What most people don't understand about SEO (search engine optimization) is that the amount of links don't matter, the quality of the links do. With that in mind it is not a natural process to only get links from article directories, blog comments, forum posts, and things like that, you need to mix it up.
What most people don't realize is that mixing up the links that point back to your site will not only make it much stronger but they will also help you get a diverse group of traffic to your site as opposed to just the same people over and over again. In many people's opinion it is best to use link directories to help get your SEO campaign up and running. One of the greatest things surrounding a link directory is they don't take that long to submit to and there are a ton of them that you can use.
Benefits of utilizing link directories for SEO reasons
Fast submissions - The benefit that many people really like is the fact that doing a submission takes just a few seconds. The biggest problem with most link building methods is they take a while to do and that is why link directories are so beneficial to you. What you must understand is that directories are very easy to do but the problem with fast submissions is if you do too many in one day then your site will look spammy and it will possibly get flagged by the search engines. Trust me when I tell you that there has to be a happy medium when it comes to link building.
Easy to understand - One great benefit is they are very simple to understand. Aren't you tired of getting links denied for not having the best spelling, for not putting your title in capitals, for doing something minor that they somehow picked up? This is one thing that will not take place in regards to directories.
Good results - Link directories might not be the best links available right now but the good thing is they still have some power in the online world. What you must understand is a link directory is not going to send you thousands of visitors every month. The link directory is simply there to help you get results through the search engines, not from the directory themselves.
Great start - As I said before, links should be built naturally and over a number of different methods. If you are building links from directories, blog comments, forum posts, and article marketing then you will have a very strong position in the search engines when all the links get picked up.
Just remember that you will have to get out there and see which web link directory will work best to start with. There are lots out there so just know that you will have your hands full with simply submitting to link directories.

SEO Link Building Strategies: Free Link Directories, Do They Still Work For SEO?

SEO Link Building Strategies: Free Link Directories, Do They Still Work For SEO?
Are free directories still a good way of building links to your website? There are hundreds of websites out there that have a high page rank, but are they all going to give you a link for free if you spend time submitting to them? On February 20th I applied to 100 directories manually with all of the necessary data. Where there was an option to leave a reciprocal link on my website, I did, just to see if it would aid the process of getting my link approved.
So after 7 days, I can confirm that most of the work was a waste of time.
Firstly, there are warning signs on sites, where the site says there are 1,600 active links, and 100,000 pending, it's pretty obvious that only paid links would get a look in, or it's a graphic (not a live status) designed to get people to part company with their money to get a link.
Strategy and Warning Signs:
  • Not all directories are unique, it's easy to spot templates that have been re-used. I do have a list on my site of mirrored directories.

  • Even if you get an email confirming the listing, check them by looking for your listing in the website search bar. Some have automated responders after a period of time that are not correct.

  • Pick a category that relates to your niche market.

  • Where the directory is edited by humans, this will have far more value as it's being managed to create quality resource for visitors.

  • Only sign up to directories that have strict guidelines for submissions. You do not want to link to a site that is related to gambling and x-rated material.

  • Check the links to get to your category within the website (not the search bar). If you get a 404 page not found, leave the website as it's of poor quality.

  • Don't expect to get any visitors from a standard directory. You are more likely to receive business and leads from a local directory. There are usually business listings off the back of local newspaper websites.

  • The more links on the category page you are going for, the less value your link will pass to your website.
The other warning signs are that it can take up to 6 months for a review to get a link back on some of the sites. If you think I'm going to wait around for 6 months to find out it is nonsense you'd be wrong!
Depending on your budget, local businesses can get away with adding maybe 6, larger corporations and organisations, a lot more. The reason for carrying out this test was to check if free links worked, they don't. The directories I used do accept payment for links, and will give you them for a small fee. If your website is critical to building or maintaining your business and you're not already at the top of the search engines, put aside $200-$300 to submit to these directories. Standard process of checking what you have submitted to, when you paid, how much you paid, the PR and that the link is live need to be kept in a spreadsheet. These links are for life, it's worth checking them in the in future in case they remove you to maintain their own 'link juice' and PR.
Quicker Submissions:
Go to a directory and you will be given some empty fields to fill in. Set up a word or note document so you can draft some descriptions.
  • Title
  • Description (200 or 500 characters)
  • Meta Description (160 characters)
  • Keywords (pick between 4 and 8 related to what you're trying to rank for)
  • Have an email address that you don't mind getting filled up with email verifications and marketing subscription emails.
When you've filled in your first one and you're happy that it is a good listing, copy and paste into all the other directories the same information to speed up the process.
Please note that this is a fraction of any SEO process. Smaller local businesses stand to gain more from this respectively than any other size of business.

Google's Panda Update - Is Your Site Getting Eaten Alive?

Do you focus on SEO as part of your lead generation strategy? The odds are high that with the latest Panda updates from Google, their new algorithms are knocking you down a peg or two...or 10. What the heck is happening here?!
The New Change: A Backlink Builder's Nightmare
While Google reveals only limited information about their methods, what is revealed seems to affect almost every business that's been aggressively using SEO methods to maintain online presence in their market. While the jury is out on just how deep the new algorithms go, one thing is clear: You can no longer build links for the sake of building links! Quality is king now. Again, because this change is so new and it takes time for experts to "successfully" analyze what's going on, this is merely a prematurely proposed solution for your website woes.
The Possible Solution: De-optimization, Are You Crazy?
De-optimization. Why would anybody in their right mind do such a thing? Well, for starters many websites and SEO "gurus" have historically taken advantage of Google's algorithmic weaknesses. That's the goal isn't it? Not anymore.
Due to keyword stuffing and ridiculously useless content geared toward pleasing Google's bots and not site visitors, Google has unleashed this vicious Panda upon our sites.
Here's what you now need to focus on:
Informative & Pertinent Content - write your website's content to reflect what visitors may want to read. If the content is great and related to that site's or page's message, the crucial keywords you need should come naturally. Well, for the most part. Just don't try too hard. Keep your body keywords around 3-5 and don't over-optimize your H1 headers or have multiple H1 headers.
Solid Links from Reputable Sources - this one is easy. Getting backlinks from linkbuildersRus dot com or collegepartypeople dot com is not going to help your law firm, small business IT services company or other non-related business gain any rankings (or clients for that matter).
Although it's still a bit early to put together a solid plan for recovery and redemption, these general guidelines should certainly point you in the right direction. There's really just one thing to focus on above all. Keep things simple. Write content that people, not robots would want to read. Pursue linking to other sites like you'd pursue local partner relationships and you should escape clutches of this crazy Panda. But not before he gets a few nibbles in.

Panda and Penguin Playing Mayhem? Learn How To Be Google's Best Buddy

With Google Panda and now Penguin, whatever next?! Google's algorithm changes seem to cause a huge amount of mayhem amongst Internet marketers every time it happens. And lately, the updates appear to be happening more frequently.
A lot of Internet marketers are complaining about their legitimate sites disappearing off the face of Google overnight, and many others are reporting that everything is fine, or even better with regards to ranking! So what's been happening?. Well, from the emerging thoughts, after the update, there is growing evidence that for the majority things are 'A' ok, but if it's not for you then you can take some action to try and remedy the situation. All of Google's updates occur to wash out the crud from their search results as they need to continue to deliver quality and relevant search results to their users.
This is excellent news for those who build links and know what is needed of them. As the dust start to settle, it is becoming obvious that you still need to have good quality, unique content on your website. And, building links and SEO are not a waste of time as some people seem to believe. If you just work with Google then they can be your best asset. Here's 3 of the emerging thoughts about the Penguin saga:
1) Vary your anchor text.
Do not have your main keyword in every anchor text that you setup, this is a no-no and is likely to raise Google's suspicions. The thoughts of some leading marketers (who have been doing extensive split testing), is that you should probably use your main keyword about 25%-30% of the time in the anchor text, the rest being made up of LSI type keywords and call to action words.
For example, if your keyword is "dog training" you would use that in the anchor text about 25%-30% of the time, the rest of the time rotate the anchor texts, examples of variety may include:
"puppy dog training"
"dog training ideas"
"how to train your dog"
"visit the site"
So you can see the variations, some of the examples don't even have keywords in them like the call to action word "click here". This is a more natural way for linking to occur to a site and is how people general link to other sites.
2) Link variety
It's becoming more and more important to have variety in your link building profile. So just using high PR profile links only will not do. Just using article submissions will not do. You need to use all types of link source out there to vary your link profile. So a little from here and there is the order of the day. Again this is a more natural way links occur in the eyes of Google and it makes sense.
3) Relevant Links
Finally, you need to be getting your links on related topic sites. For example a dog training site, you could get links from a dog animal lovers forum, veterinary site or comment on a blog about animals and pets etc.
It would be very unnatural for say a finance site to link to a dog training website. It wouldn't happen in the real world and this is an important aspect of building links.
So, there you are, Google are just cleaning up their search results and those who play by their rules should be fine and do well. Those link spamming, then they will suffer the wrath of the Big G. Follow these simple steps, keep it natural, keep it safe!

How New Google Algorithm Will Affect Your SEO and Website's Ranking?

As on 24 April, 2012, Google has said that it will change its algorithm to de-index or decrease the ranking of websites that are using "webspam" or "black hat SEO". It's a very important change in the world of SEO and website rankings. The changes in the Google algorithm will change the rankings of all websites that have used any kind of illegal SEO.
Difference between white hat and black hat SEO Services as per Google
Google has clearly defined white hat and black hat SEO services so that people (as well as internet marketers and SEO companies/individuals) can promote their sites as per rules and regulations.
White hat SEO
White hat is a SEO technique that is used to promote sites effectively using original content. This particular type of SEO technique is very healthy and increases user web experience. According to Google, this type of method is good for both users as well as search engines, and promotes healthy internet marketing.
Black hat SEO
Black hat is opposite of white hat SEO. In webspam, people use shortcuts and loopholes to get higher page rank quickly. With this type of technique, sites get higher ranks in search engines and get a higher PR illegally, and all search engines keep looking for all such websites that use shortcuts for promotions.
What you can do as an internet marketer to keep yourself safe from this change?
All the internet marketers and SEO experts including some SEO companies are worried that how their client's websites would be affected after this big change. Recently we have seen all famous "buildmyrank" shutting down its services due to being caught by Google. Frankly speaking, you cannot do anything at all if you have been using any kind of webspam services. Your website (including your client's websites) will be de-indexed sooner or later. All you need to do is change your SEO techniques as quickly as possible and try promoting your websites with pure white hat SEO services. It is strongly recommended to start promoting your websites and blogs with legal SEO as soon as you can to lower the effect of search engine ranking once Google will de-index your URL.
So the idea is very simple and straightforward, Google will catch you up sooner or later if you have ever used poor SEO. So if you are using shortcuts to promote your website, then you must say goodbye to all webspam techniques before you lose everything you have over the internet.

Has Google Penguin Rendered SEO Pointless?

Worried About Over-Optimising Penalties due to Google Penguin? Heed This Advice
Google is at it again! With the Google penguin update, some websites have seen a big drop in traffic. If your site was considered spammy, Google may have knocked you down a few (or many) pegs on the search engine results pages.
No matter what happened with this SEO update it's important for you to realise something. Google will probably never stop tweaking and adjusting their algorithms. Your job with SEO is never ever going to be done (NEVER! Cue: evil laugh...)
Continually tweaking the algorithms is Google's concerted effort to operate with continuous improvement principles. It's how they hope they'll hang on to the lion's share of the internet search market by staying ahead of evil SEO super villains who find ways to fake their way to the top.
What does this mean to you, the company who isn't trying to game the system and who just wants to do the right thing so that you can attract customers to your site and provide them with an honest-to-goodness product or service? It means you'll want to continually watch your back, for one thing!
Should you just forget SEO and leave things to chance since Google seems like it is constantly trying to stop people from succeeding at it? No. The right strategy for SEO is more important than ever. The right strategy should encompass doing your very best to please your customers and to make quality a top priority.
• Don't get as hung up on keyword density.
• Don't be as concerned about link juice and linking strategies
• Do get really in tune with what your customers want.
• Do put quality at the top of the priority list and keep it there.
Sure, keywords, tags, and other SEO elements are still important. But search engines look at obvious attempts to game the system. They also look at your conversion rate to see if you're doing a good job of servicing the traffic they send you. When the search engines measure your site, they want to know if you're doing things in a way that is bringing you converting traffic. If they send you 10000 visitors today and 0 of them convert, search engines will re-assess whether or not you deserve that traffic.
By the same token, if you're on the bottom of page 1 and are getting more positive results than your competitors in spots 1 and 2, search engines will take notice and you'll inch your way up those ranks.
SEO isn't Pointless!
If you've lost rankings you might be thinking that SEO is pointless. But it's not. It's important to do things so that your customers can find you. The right SEO strategies also include smart on-page optimisation strategies that logically walk the visitor through the site. The best SEO results happen when you know your customers, know your industry, understand how search engines work, avoid duplicate content, avoid common SEO mistakes, et cetera.
SEO isn't the be-all and end-all. Make sure you employ diverse online marketing strategies. Content marketing, social media, pay per click, email marketing, and other marketing methods can all help you, too. Develop multiple streams of traffic and a solid customer relationship management strategy so that you don't have to continually chase after new traffic as your only source of income. Your existing customers can keep buying and can be a great source of word of mouth referrals, too!
