How Many Keywords Should Be in My Meta Tags?

One of the biggest questions that a beginner may have is how many keywords should be in their meta-tags. To be brutally honest, most people get this completely wrong and end up damaging themselves in the process. This is an unfortunate situation that can be avoided with proper education before the problem becomes a problem. Therefore, if you pay attention to this article it would definitely help you stay away from this problem now and in the future.
Let us just start out by saying that there should be no more than 10 keywords in your meta-keywords it is very tempting to have more keywords in this section. However, the search engines tend to see this as spam content. Therefore, the search engines will not place relevance upon whatever page the meta-keywords are placed on in the future or in the present.
The truth is that many people try to spam the meta-keywords for extra SEO rankings. However, this started to be a problem for the search engines because they could not tell what sites were relevant based on meta-keywords. Therefore, they stop placing as much relevance on the keywords as stated before. However, this did not stop the business practice of adding as many keywords as possible into a keyword section.
The search engine started penalizing sites for spamming there keyword section. Many of the sites that follow this business practice have experienced penalization and decrease ranking. Therefore, it does not make sense to add more than 10 keywords in the meta-keyword section. Doing so will only enhance the possibility of the website being seen as a spam website.
The best thing to do when trying to get rankings for your website is try to follow the search engine's guidelines as closely as possible as this will help you to avoid any spam penalties. This includes staying away from spamming the keyword section on a website. A smart optimizer will use a keyword section to diversify their terms that a page is relevant about without adding too much context to the particular tag.
It is also not smart to repeat keywords in the keyword section. Since you only have 10 words to play with you need to be very selective about which ones you choose. It does not help to repeat the same keyword over and over. This also causes a spam penalty on the website. Therefore, it makes a lot of sense for a business owner or a search engine Optimizer to be very careful about what keywords they put into the section.
Finally, if you are really pressed and need to add more keywords you should not add more than 15 keywords in your meta-keywords section. That is the absolute top amount of keywords that you should have on a page. Most of the smartest search engine optimizers do not go to this level. However, it can be done.
In closing, a person who is interested in having good rankings on the search engines understands that they need to be careful about what keywords they place on a particular webpage. If a person should be very careful about what terms they put on a page. They will avoid spam penalties from the search engines and give themselves the best chance that they could possibly have to get rankings on the search engines.

Organic SEO Placement Guarantees: Good Value, Or Warning Sign?

As business owners, it's natural to want guarantees covering work. After all, most projects can have a guaranteed beneficial outcome. That's why it's natural to think well of SEO companies that offer guaranteed results: it's a promise that you'll have a good result, right? When you're talking about organic SEO, the answer is a definite no.

Can SEO Companies Guarantee Ranking?

At the most fundamental level, it's just not possible to make any kind of certain declaration about where your company will end up in the results. The reason is simple: no one has control over Google's results, other than the Google algorithm. The same is true for Yahoo!, Bing - every major search provider uses a specific algorithm to determine how they organize what their users see. It isn't possible for anyone to artificially insert your company into that list. What's shown there is designed to be unbiased by definition; any search provider that did anything else would immediately lose credibility.

What SEO companies do instead is make your website as friendly to the known requirements for high ranking as it can be. This means adding keywords, adding content, optimizing code, and much more. But even with all these changes, it's still not an exact science. The exact details of how a particular engine gets its results are not public. It's not as simple as matching a checklist and achieving the desired result. Plus, there may be a lot of competition - other websites targeting the same people you're after, which makes it harder for yours to succeed. In addition, those other websites could have a significant advantage if they've been focused on organic SEO for longer, or are pursuing a more aggressive strategy than you. The bottom line is simple: unless SEO companies do research into specific keywords you're interested in, it's hard to even provide a guess of how successful you might be. Even if that research is performed, it's impossible to really provide a guarantee.

Ways That Companies Can Seem To Offer Guarantees

It isn't possible for any search marketing firm to offer a firm promise of a place in the top results. So how can any of those offering such promises make them come true? Well, some of them just don't. They attract customers based on promises, and then fail to deliver. So many people are looking to the internet for promotion that there is nearly an endless string of potential victims for this kind of scam. That is perhaps the best reason to be wary of guarantees: they may well indicate a company that is dishonest and actually unskilled at organic SEO.

If they actually provide some kind of delivery on their promises, there's a couple of ways to follow the letter of their statement without following the spirit. The most common is to achieve great results on search engines that no one has ever heard of. These may very well be paid engines that no one uses; they could even be maintained by the company itself. Another way is to simply target the least competitive keywords. This is the least dishonest, because it provides at least some possible benefit to you. However, focusing on very non-competitive keywords means they're probably neglecting some of the more competitive ones, which could well be the strongest ones for your individual strategy.

The best SEO companies won't offer you a promise of results. Instead, they'll pledge to do their best for you. They will promise strong tracking, analytics, and quantifiable progress.

Meta Tags Keywords, Descriptions and Titles - Search Engine Optimization of Your Site Content

Some website owners don't think that meta tag titles, descriptions, and keywords matter so much in their site rankings anymore. It is true that search engine algorithms are constantly changing in how they determine where your pages rank. I am of the old school of thinking, and prefer to stay with my current method of search engine optimization and meta data entry, at least for now.

Online businesses are growing at an alarming rate. Some will make it, and some will not. If you expect to create a website, add a few products or articles, and do nothing else but wait for the money to come rolling in, I fear you will be terribly disappointed.

Whether you have an online business or a physical brick and mortar store, there will always be competition. You have to market your business and product(s). Advertising your online business does not have to cost you a fortune. There are multiple ways to market your business without spending a nickel.

Before embarking on your free site promotion efforts, however, put some information under your belt about meta titles, descriptions, and keywords. Each page of your site, including your category, article, and product pages, should have at a minimum a meta title, a meta description, and meta keywords.

How you enter this data is based on the site builder you use or how you manage your site content. I use a site builder that allows the data to be entered on the fly as I enter categories and products.

The meta title does not need to be lengthy. It is simply a short title that will appear on the browser tab, or at least it will in the Mozilla Firefox and Internet Explorer browsers. If I were creating a meta title for this article, I would make it something like "How to Use Meta Keywords, Descriptions, and Titles." Typically, the title should indicate what the specific page is about content wise.

You also need to enter site relevant meta keywords. If you are entering a category for various products to fall under, enter keywords relevant to that particular category. The keywords used here are going to be broader in scope than those used in the product pages you create to go under these categories.

When you next add the individual products to the category, it is advisable to "drill down" into more specific keywords. When choosing them, select words you want to rank for in the search engines. Think of words shoppers might type in to find the product(s) you are selling.

There is no reason to enter a lengthy list of keywords. The search engines stop spidering the meta keyword data at around 100 characters, so choose the most prominent words to use and that is all you need to enter.

The meta description is what will appear in most search engines when your page comes up in the results. You want to enter data here that will entice the surfer to click on through to your page, so take enough time to write an eye-catching description.

There is one common mistake many web creators make. All of their pages, including category, product, and information pages, etc. all have the same meta tag information. That is the incorrect way to structure your descriptions, titles, and keywords. Consider the "meat" or content of the website itself. Is every page about the same thing? Probably not. When you start the creation of your website, have a plan; maybe even draw it out on paper. Determine what each specific area of the site is about, and structure the content accordingly.

Next, put yourself in the shoes of a shopper, and think of what might make your site information appealing enough to make them want to click through, visit your site, and make a purchase.

Your keywords should appear in your page content as well, but do not get carried away with this step. For example, do not type in your keyword 20 or 30 times on the page to help you rank for the word. This most often backfires and creates an adverse effect. Search engines are smarter than that, and this strategy will ultimately hurt your site more than it will help it.

Search engines favor high quality content that makes sense and is readable. The keyword quantity in your content should be of a certain percentage, roughly about 2-4% of your overall content, but avoid excessive keyword entry. It is best to write about your products and category information in a very natural way, not focusing on interjecting your keywords repeatedly.

The Necessity of SEO Optimization

The world of Internet is today's primary communication platform. 200 million web domains support more than tenfold that number of websites. There is a site for almost any topic under the sun. Any form of information, service, product, or business can be found online with a simple search. This is where your site needs SEO optimization to be found easily among the millions of sites that deal with the same business or topic you deal with. Over 200 million people use the Google engine to look for information or business resources every day. This proves the extent to which the world is dependent on the net today. However, as an owner of brand needing online presence, you need to understand the core aspects of this virtual world if you want success.

What exactly is SEO optimization all about? How does it work? What are the parameters? These are the primary questions that you need to be thorough with before you actively pursue online publicity.

SEO means 'search engine optimization'. The idea is to enhance a particular website's visibility within the parameters of online systems in its niche relevance. There are millions of subjects of business; but your web presence enhancement concentrates on enhancing your website within your niche relevance. This is done by a number of professional analytical research processes combined with content development and social media management. It creates an all round branding and makes your site more prominent and higher ranked on search results.

Internet surfers usually use a short key phrase or word to seek their information or business resources. These change from time to time, but remain more or less similar in that relevant field. SEO development consists of continuous research on the contemporary changes in these keywords or phrases, and following the analysis by developing more content on the topic, with back links to your website for better visibility. It a very skilled task and only trained professionals can do this effectively.

The internet searching method works on algorithms and bots called 'spiders'. These automated programs screen every webpage for the keywords or phrases or the nearest relevant topics to that subject. These automated programs' algorithms are getting better every day as they 'learn' which topics are relevant through the process. SEO professionals make sure that these 'spiders' pick up their website among the best relevant pages, hence raising you website's visibility to the engine.

The reason that SEO optimization is such a professional field is the fact that there are strict parameters to abide by in this entire process. Keywords and phrases, and even associated keywords cannot be packed into the content irrelevantly. They need to be placed in with extreme care within a certain density level. There is also the factor of continuity to consider. After SEO optimization, the experts need to go over the process from time to time and enhance the site regularly. This needs to be in a cycle between 3-6 months depending on the competition on your website's subject.

If you are planning to keep your website visible in the infinite sea of competitor sites, you need professional SEO optimization. Only with proficient services like that of SEOxpert.com can your website be ranked high on search results relevant to your subject.

Meta Tags and Keywords: Why They Are Important

Having good meta tags and keywords on a website will determine your level of exposure to search engines and audiences.
What are meta tags?

Meta tags are an HTML element that's added to the header of your page. This is generally what will come up when someone is searching for your site. Meta tags keywords are specific keywords that will guide search engines to pull up your site. The header also has a meta description field which is a 1 to 2 sentence description about your site. This is generally the description that comes up during a search result.

Meta tag Description

Meta tag keywords and meta tag description are coded like the following:

Poor meta tags and meta tag descriptions will lead to low visibility of your site. Remember though, meta tags are not the only defining factor of your site's success. Also do not go keyword frenzy on this either. It's best to limit your meta keywords to no more than 10. Most search engines, especially Google, are smart enough to not accept meta keywords anymore but rather just use your meta keywords as a reference to what your site may be about. Meta keywords are still important, but are not the defining role in a website's marketing anymore.

How To Choose Great Meta tag Keywords

To determine what keywords to use, you must first determine, what people would put into search engines that should bring up your site. For example, if you hosted a site that was based on the iPhone, you might choose keywords like "Apple", "iPhone", or "Steve Jobs", words that would ultimately lead the user to your site.

Also don't limit yourself to just words. Use key phrases as well. If you had a Martial Arts site, you might choose phrases like "Self Defense" and "Hand to Hand Combat".

Find Resources On The Web

The internet has a billion places that could help you with your keyword choosing. For example, you could browse upon a site similar to yours and determine what keywords they used that they think were successful and you could use similar ones. After all keywords are not patented.

One great tool to use is to use Google's keyword generator that they use for the AdWords site. Http://adwords.google.com is an application for businesses to advertise on Google, and in doing so, Google provides to them a huge list of keywords that may relate to your site. You may take this and extract a few important keywords from their list to add to your meta tag. Be sure not to choose too broad of keywords as it may have very little to no effect. If you own a restaurant website, you may not want to choose "food" as one of your keywords.

Once you have your keywords chosen, add them to your site within the header tags. You may want to do this for each page, to ensure full possible visibility. You may even want to choose different keywords for different pages if there's a clear enough line of differentiability.

Understanding Meta Tags and Keywords - Your Roadmap Guide to Search Engine Success

What Are Meta Tags?

Quite simply, Meta Tags are a bunch of code located invisibly at the top or 'header' of your website pages. They include vital information about your page for the search engine robots that sweep the internet regularly. This information is stored in their database, ready to be queried by the search engine user.

That information consists of page title, description, target keywords, page author, subject, language and other techie details too. Now there have been some idiots in the internet marketing niche posting in forums, saying that the Meta tags are not important. In fact they are important, because you want TARGETED traffic to your site for free, right?

Now Google used to rely solely on the Meta tags. But nowadays, the Googlebots also parse the paragraphs text for target keywords, including page headers for relevance. But too many keywords in the content are bad, so don't over-do it.

The Structure of the Meta Tag Code in Page Header

Now, non techies may feel overwhelmed when viewing a page of HTML code. Yes, I can look daunting at the start. But for now, all you need to be focussing on for now is the "header" section, the first section of the web page at the top. Now I assume you have designed your page in an HTML editor. So in your editor, switch over to code view then look at the code between the HEAD and /HEAD tags.

Here's a bare bones example:

title PAGE TITLE /title

META NAME="Reply-to" CONTENT="youATmyemail.com"

META NAME="Author" CONTENT="Your Name"

META NAME="Subject" CONTENT="SUBJECT"

META NAME="Description" CONTENT="SHORT DESCRIPTION"

META NAME="Keywords" CONTENT="KEYWORD1,KEYWORD2,etc"

META NAME="Language" CONTENT="English"

META NAME="Revisit-after" CONTENT="15 days"

META NAME="Distribution" CONTENT="GLOBAL"

META NAME="Robots" CONTENT="All"

META NAME="Rating" CONTENT="GENERAL"

META NAME="Classification" CONTENT="Internet Marketing"

Now let's take a look at the most important ones in more detail:

PAGE TITLE

The title should contain your top keyword and if possible some secondary keywords. Don't overdo it here, but make it attract eyeballs from the search engine listings.

META NAME="Reply-to" CONTENT="youATmyemail.com"

This is where you assign the email address you wish to use for site visitor contact. You should never have your email address among site body content, because the spam spider harvesters will grab it and begin sending you tons of spam.

META NAME="Author" CONTENT="Your Name"

Just enter your name here. If someone searches Google using your name, they'll find you more easily. Now if you're a black hatter, you won't be putting your contact details in your Meta tags or page content, as well as on domain name registration. I don't condone black hat SEO methods because they don't work in the long run, because people are more savvy these days and will compare details of your site with WHOIS database.

META NAME="Subject" CONTENT="SUBJECT"

The subject of your web page. Be specific here - must relate to content.

META NAME="Description" CONTENT="SHORT DESCRIPTION"

This one is important as it will show up in the search engines below your page title link. Include your main keywords, your top 3 or 4. It should make sense and include a benefit that your webpage can provide.

META NAME="Keywords" CONTENT="KEYWORD1,KEYWORD2,etc"

First go to the free Google Keyword Research tool, enter in your main keyword or keyword phrase. A list of 50 will appear. Now to get the most searched for keywords, click on the top of the 'Global Monthly Searches' column to arrange the results from top to bottom in order of highest searches. Now select the top 10 and copy/paste into notepad. Also note a few other keywords your prospective visitors may type in.

Don't go overboard here, about ten or so targeted words is sufficient.

META NAME="Language" CONTENT="English"

Only change this if your website is for a non English speaking country.

META NAME="Revisit-after" CONTENT="15 days"

Tells the Googlebots to re-spider your site twice a month. Set this to whatever suits you best. If you update your site daily, set this to 1 day, and so on.

META NAME="Distribution" CONTENT="GLOBAL"

Keep this one to distribute globally. Again, only change this if your site is country specific.

META NAME="Robots" CONTENT="All"

This tells the robots whether or not to index the page. "All" will index everything, while "No-Follow" will block the robot software adding your site to the search engine database. Do this if your page is for a private group.

META NAME="Rating" CONTENT="GENERAL"

Set to GENERAL so it's open to all eyeballs, old and young. If it's an adult based site, change this to ADULT

META NAME="Classification" CONTENT="Internet Marketing"

The top level category for your web pages. Choose wisely.

That just about covers all the main Meta tag information you'll need to have you site up and ready for info hungry search engine visitors.

All the Best,

Better Keywords Equals Better SEO

There are a plethora of techniques toted by SEO gurus to be the secret strategy that will flood your website with traffic. Some of them have some merit, but most of them are just hype. The problem that most people get into is that they don't take the time to lay the correct ground work before promoting their site. They just take off working on the secret maneuvers that their current favorite guru is telling them will work.

There are a lot of sites out there that get traffic simply because they are huge sites staffed by hundreds of workers. The bottom line though is that the content on the site is sporadic and does not necessarily have a positive impact on the site itself. Yes, Google does view sites will tons of contents and tons of back links as more reputable sites, but that is just one set of standards that leads to success.

The real way to success that is commonly left untouched is to actually keep each of the pages and content on their site relevant to a handful of specifically chosen keywords that match the intent of the website.

As mentioned above, you have to take the time to first lay down the proper foundation. This means that YOU HAVE TO DO KEYWORD RESEARCH! Don't stop doing research until you have exhausted your options. Start to compile a large list of keywords that are all related to your site's main topic. Break this big list down in to several separate lists that can serve as categories on your site. Each of these categories should be broken down into more specific sub-categories. You should continue this until you cannot go any deeper.

That being said, this will take an insane amount of time. Keyword research is pretty much impossible to do without SEO software unless you want to spend day and night for a few weeks looking at keywords and taking Excedrin. You should find a research tool such as SEO Keyword Builder and use it to do the data collection and number crunching. SEO software can give you the information you need such as how many people are interested in a particular keyword as well as how many website owners are already coming up in the search results for that keyword (competition). It becomes relatively easy to see which keywords are sure-fire successes and removes the errant guesswork. You should also be able to better manage your lists from within the software. This can help aid in breaking your main list down into categorical lists.

The next step, is to take those keywords and create pages that are dedicated to nothing more than a single keyword. The entire content (videos, pictures, text, etc.) found on that page should match the keyword as being the topic. This is a highly relevant page that has little competition and gets a reasonable amount of traffic.

Once you get the page out on the Internet, start promoting it by getting back links. If you did your research right and build the content well, you'll be at the top of the search results in no time flat. The difference here is that you build more applicable content as opposed to building a ton of "hit or miss" content.

With all of the headaches that come with keyword research, you owe it to yourself to invest in SEO Software that can not only free up your valuable time, but give you better results. SEO Keyword Builder is a revolutionary keyword research tool that can and will give you what you need to succeed!

Keyword Selection: A Key to Web Success

Keywords are the words search engine users enter into Google's search box. So, if you're looking for baby shower gifts you might type in "baby gifts" and start clicking on links found on page 1 of the search engine results pages (SERPs).

As a web-based business owner, the keywords you select define the topicality of your web site - the products and services you sell and where you sell them. Thanks to localized search, a small boutique on Main Street can target local shoppers and not unqualified prospects in Mozambique.

Your web site should employ a number of keywords because you never know what a search engine user will enter into Yahoo's search box. However, too many keywords, ambiguous keywords and keywords that don't make sense to a search engine spider (also called a bot) will often get a web site slammed, panned and even banned if the search engine "thinks" you're trying to mislead its users.

The objective of any search engine is to deliver the most relevant web sites, ranked according to their relevance. The most relevant site ranks at the top, with sites of decreasing relevance filling up page after page of SERPs. That's why most search engine users never get beyond page 2 or 3 in any SERPs.

If your site doesn't rank in the top tier of SERPs you won't see much organic traffic - visitors who found your site via a search using keywords as part of their query.

Selecting the Right Keywords for Your Web Site

The right keywords deliver more traffic because a link to your web site appears on page 1 of Ask, Bing, Google, Yahoo or any of the other 4,000 search engines crawling the web today. Here's why.

Think of a search engine as an elephantine file cabinet with literally millions of file folders stored in millions of drawers. This is the search engine index - its taxonomy, the way it sorts web sites, blogs and information associated with digital spaces. Your web site will be placed in one of those file folders based on the keywords you use in your HTML code (the code that actually produces the presentation layer of the web site) and the site skin itself.

If you're a certified financial planner, you want to make sure that "certified financial planner" and "CFA" appear in your HTML keyword tag and in the site text itself. Typically, search engine optimizers recommend a keyword density of 2%-3%, though some of these on-line marketers will go as high as 5% meaning that out of every 100 words of site text, five will be keywords.

An overload of keywords should be avoided. It's a practice called keyword stuffing, something search engines frown on.

Start by making a list of intuitive keywords - the keywords that you, the business owner, believe would be entered by search engine users looking for your goods or services. You, better than most, know what your prospects are looking for so start by making a list of 10 to 15 intuitive keywords.

Then do a little research on each one.

The Google Keyword Generator

Use it. It's one of the most valuable tools available to new web site owners:

  • The Google Keyword Generator doesn't project results, it delivers actual search terms and phrases entered by Google users in the past 30 days.
  • These are real users of the most popular search engine in the world.
  • It indicates the number of searches conducted for each keyword or phrase.
  • It will expand and refine your list of intuitive keywords.
  • It's really simple to use and interpret the data.
  • It's Google, for goodness sake.

Enter each of your intuitive keywords and phrases to determine how often these terms were used. Simple changes to your list will make a huge difference in the delivery of visitors to your website through organic search results.

Long-Tail Key Words

Long-tail keywords are typically keyword phrases. The disadvantage to using long-tails is that fewer search engine users enter these keyword phrases. The advantage is that those who DO enter these long-tails see your web site at the top of page one of SERPs.

Example: if you own a bicycle shop that specializes in high-end, Tour de France quality racing bikes, then using "bicycles" as a keyword won't deliver as much traffic as "high quality racing bicycles." Why? EVERY business related to bicycles will use "bicycles" as a search term so your little site may be buried deep in the SERPs, never to be seen be serious biking enthusiasts.

On the other hand, fewer search engine users will enter "high quality racing bicycles" into a search box, but if you use that long-tail, your web site will rank higher. And as a side benefit, you get more qualified buyers - buyers willing to spend a great deal of money on their hobby.

Add a couple of long-tail keywords to your list and track their performance. Your keyword list is always a work in progress with successful keywords added and poorly performing keywords - long-tails or otherwise - dropped.

Local Search Keywords

Local businesses - the ones that line Main Street in your town - are turning to the web more and more thanks to local search.

Local search enables small businesses to target local prospects. A bistro downtown can post that evening's specials for local diners to check out. Search engines offer the option of local search, but you'll help search engines by adding your town's address, including zip code.

If you type in "racing bicycles 78201" you'll see a list of bike shops in that part of San Antonio, Texas. You'll also see a map with "pushpins" providing addresses, telephone numbers and printable directions to the local shops that sell bicycles in zip code 78201.

Be sure to add the name of your community and state, as well. This information should appear as text so it can be read by spiders. If your bike shop's local search information appears in a graphic, it can't be read by search engine bots so it won't do you any good.

Display complete address and other contact information on every page of your site. It increases the likelihood of appear on the top SERPs during a local search and it provides quick information for site visitors who want to pick up the telephone to give you a telephone call.

Think of keywords as the means by which your web site is sorted in that gigantic index called a search engine, whether it's Yahoo, Bing, Google, Ask or any of the other general search engines we all use every day. Choose the right keywords and your site will be placed in the proper "file folder" of the search engine. Choose ambiguous keywords, or conflicting keywords, and search engine bots won't know where to file your site within its index.

With keywords, it's better to be clear than clever so keep it simple, constantly tweak your list, test new keywords against existing keywords and make it a good web business practice to constantly refine the keywords in your HTML code and on site.

Bots aren't bright so explain, exactly, what your web site is about to ensure you're properly indexed. It could well mean the difference between fast growth and business success and a web site with cob webs on the home page.

Which would you rather own?

SEO Content Writing - More Than Keyword Stuffing

Too many times, businesses over-simplify key elements that lead to successful communication of the messages that they are trying to get out to consumers and clients. When SEO content writing is mentioned you often hear the response: "that is a no brainer." Just pick a word or phrase that search engines can easily spot and you have it made. SEO content writing has become much more involved and complicated than simply choosing a keyword or phrase. In today's internet business arena, you must use a much more sophisticated approach. A two-pronged strategy works best.

Keyword selection remains critical

There is no SEO if there is not at least one central keyword or phrase highlighted in your business communication. Choose that keyword or phrase carefully and wisely. Consider it the first prong in the process. The next important decision to make is what density you want the keyword to have within the article. You need to realize that this density question is NOT an area where "more is better." Keyword density abuse has become widespread and common and is one more reason you need to employee expert SEO content writing services. If the keyword is not used enough, it may cause your business writing to be missed. Overuse of the keyword can basically cause your content (articles, web pages, etc.) to be ignored as spam. So be sure you have the correct keyword or phrase chosen and used within your content just the "right" number of times.

LSI use completes the process

Latent Semantic Indexing (LSI) is computer generated algorithms that analyze not only keywords, but secondary keywords and phrases as well. SEO content writing must now include as much time spent or even more on choosing secondary keywords that compliment the main keyword or phrase. These secondary keywords are commonly referred to as "LSI's." Basically, lsi's give context to your keyword so it can be found and categorized by search engines more effectively. Example: If you use tires as your keyword over and over again, you could end up in the middle or end of search for truck tires or race car tires or bicycle tires. If you want to get to the top of the search list for bicycle tires, you would want to include such lsi's as: bicycle accessories, bicycle wheels, rubber bicycle accessories, etc... You should get the point. Context is now as important as specific keyword for searches.

SEO content writing specialists and services will improve all your SEO efforts. It is money well spent.

Google Sandbox for New Websites

Webmasters or blog owners spend their precious hours, days or months to build their web pages. They prepare their content, try to set an eye-catching design, struggle with possible software and hosting problems and finally make their pages ready for the exciting launch night. However, they confront a nightmare right after they launch their brand new web pages.

The mighty Google does not help them for traffic.

The right question to ask before getting frustrated is; "Have you heard of the Google Sandbox concept?"

It is called sandbox because your website is put in an area where you are isolated from others. If you are sent to sandbox, you can't compete with old and established ones till your lovely website proves itself. You need to play with other children and you will need time; you will need to grow before playing with adults. If you grow up and gain Google's trust, then you can rank well on SERPs.

Why is Google doing that Aging Delay?

It was first observed after the update in 2004. (By the way "Google Sandbox" is not an official term agreed by Google, it is called like that by the web community) Before that change, spam websites were using Google as a ground for earning easy money overnight. There were lots of abuse, spam was everywhere. Spammers were preparing websites with copy/paste, getting good rankings for competitive words quickly on SERPs, taking huge amounts of traffic easily and search engines were helping them a lot. At that time it was getting hard for search engine users to find quality websites because of this "earn easy money online" strategies.

So starting from that update, Google changed its algorithm and started to apply some filters to prevent this kind of tricky business. New websites no longer rank well easily on SERPs.

I should also mention that older websites are also sent to sandbox if they are penalized. That is a different topic and there are lots of differences between being in sandbox as a young website or an old website. This article is only about new websites and I will write another article about older websites in future. So you may ask "Am I penalized and sent to sandbox or am I waiting in sandbox because I am a newcomer?"

How can you understand that your new website is in Google Sandbox?

These are some symptoms if you have a new website and waiting in sandbox:

  • Usually this sandbox filter affects new websites which are 0-12 months old.
  • Most of the time this aging delay is for new registered domains. However in some cases it is observed that using older domains are also not a solution for this delay if its content and web pages are newly created.
  • When you try "site:www.yourcutesite.com" in Google, your pages will be shown in the results. That means you are not banned totally, bots can visit and index your webpages. (Also give search engines some time for indexing your new pages; search their index after 1-2 weeks from website launch)
  • When you look at your analytics programs or server logs, you will see that you are getting visitors from Google only with your brand or company name as search keywords.
  • When you search for your targeted keywords in Google, your website won't be in SERPs or will be between 30th-50th pages.
  • Other search engines might send you traffic with your targeted keywords. (Though you can read differently elsewhere, I believe Yahoo and Bing also started to use some similar filters in their algorithms for new websites, they are also fighting with spam, right?)
  • Your website will not rank well for highly relevant keywords or even long tail less competitive keywords.

What can I do, how can I get out from sandbox?

You will not like my answers for this question. Essentially the solution is time. You need to wait, wait and wait. Most likely you will wait for 3 to 12 months after your website launch. This duration is changing with the competition on your targeted keywords. If you are planning to rank well in a competitive market, you will have to wait longer.

People say this kind of filter does not exist. But in my opinion every website passes through this kind of filter. Some stays very long in sandbox since they are aiming highly competitive markets. Some does not wait, even feel a sense of waiting since their targeted keywords are not so popular and challenging for ranking mechanism.

I know it is hard to wait but be patient. Use this time for your advantage. Don't ever use black hat SEO techniques. Just try to improve your content, do your white hat SEO work, increase your brand value with marketing, use social media to promote your pages. Avoiding this filter is impossible so don't believe in some tricky articles or videos.

My ultimate advice, always try climbing the hard path, it will be worth it.

Don't forget, it is just a probationary period to prevent spam. If you are planning some good business with your website or blog, you will be glad about this sort of filter in future. Because when you pass this "frustrating" time, when you start playing with adults, this filter also will protect you from spammy competitors.

The Google Sandbox - What is it and Does it Really Exist?

The Google Sandbox is basically a time period that websites must wait in order to start ranking for high competitive keywords. It's a filter system that Google places on new websites which have little to no trust.

There are many theories on the internet regarding the Google sandbox as it's not entirely clear, however, we do know that some sort of filter system exists which lasts between 3 to 9 months (some claim even longer). This filter system will affect highly competitive keywords and will not show them in the SERPS.

It's important to mention that the sandbox affect is keyword related only and will not affect the whole site. It will affect the site if all of your keywords are highly competitive which require extra trust by Google in order to show the results in their SERPS.

Can I avoid the Google Sandbox?

I'm afraid this is not possible, Many people claim that doing this or that can reduce the chances of your site getting sandboxed. To avoid being sandboxed is never going to have a clear path. Some of the many claims are very useful to your website and rankings even if they will not actually get you out of the sandbox.

If there is a way to get out of the sandbox then you will need to:

Earn Google's trust - this is done by getting some high quality backlinks from sites such as dmoz - yahoo and other sites with high page rank including .gov and .edu domain.

Write quality content - write quality content so that it will become very popular - people will bookmark it - it will appear on delicious, flickr, and on many blogs. Google loves content and if you keep producing excellent content which gets syndicated and used by others then it should speed up the time your website spends in the sandbox.

Some people even say that by building backlinks slowly will also get the site out of the sandbox or avoid the sandbox altogether. To be honest this isn't a factor which will affect the sandbox.

What to do while I'm in the Sandbox?

To come out of the sandbox requires patience and no one knows this better then webmasters who have been in the sandbox for their competitive keywords. If you are in the sandbox then don't give up.

Keep promoting your website -when you get released from the sandbox filter you should have some great rankings.

Target long tail keywords - Remember that the sandbox only affects competitive keywords - optimize your articles to target long tail keywords - you will start to rank for them quickly.

Points to consider:

Being caught up in the sandbox filter is one of the worst experiences that any webmaster can have. The period ranges from 3 to 9 months - some people say that this period focuses on the site age and others say that it focuses on the age of backlinks. Either way when you get a new site make sure to start creating backlinks to it asap so that the backlinks can also age with the domain. A quality aged backlink has great power.

Remember to keep working on your optimization for the website as when you will come out of the sandbox you should benefit from great rankings.

Basics of Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

Have you heard stories about legendary online entrepreneurs who hit it big after getting a #1 rank in several popular search engines? You probably wondered what it would take for you to achieve that elusive #1 spot in the search engine result pages (SERPs). Search Engine Optimization (SEO) plays a vital role in ensuring that your business gets the best possible search engine ranking, which can lead to increased sales for your online company.

What is Search Engine Optimization (SEO)?

Search engine optimization is the process of modifying web page content and meta-information to improve the search engine ranking of the page. Meta-information includes certain HTML tags (title, heading, emphasized text, keyword and description meta-tags), as well as the internal (links between pages on the same site) and external (links between pages on different sites) link structure of a web site.

Impact of High Search Engine Rank on Sales

Internet market research estimates that between 70% and 90% of online shoppers use search engines to find a specific product or service. Let's examine factors that influence sales to see how effective search engine optimization can boost your revenues.

Three metrics are required to forecast online sales: the average ticket, the conversion rate, and the amount of web site traffic:

* The average ticket is the amount of money spent by a customer on a typical transaction. Computer and electronics stores have high average tickets (hundreds or thousands of dollars), while bookstores have low average tickets (tens of dollars).

* Web Site traffic is measured by the number of site visitors, typically expressed as the number of page views per month.

* Conversion rate is the number of sales divided by the number of page views per month, expressed as a percentage.

Let's look at an example. The Ultimate Taupe Widget (UTW) store has an average ticket of $25, a conversion rate of 2%, and gets 5,000 page views per month. The estimated monthly sales are $2,500 ($25 average ticket * 0.02 conversion rate expressed as a decimal * 5,000 page views per month). Achieving a high search engine rank will increase the number of page views, and therefore increase sales. In this example, if traffic doubles to 10,000 page views a month, UTW's monthly sales should (approximately) double as well (to $5,000).

Keep in mind that a high search engine rank will produce a measurable increase in traffic only if there is significant marketplace interest in taupe widgets and your web site appears in the first thirty search engine results.

However, search engine optimization is not going to produce measurable results if there is very little demand for taupe widgets. The #1 spot in search engine result pages is not particularly impressive if only two people search for "taupe widgets" each month.
Role of Keywords in Search Engine Optimization

Keywords are words or phrases users provide to search engines to locate information. Search engines examine page content to determine whether a specific page is relevant for a particular search word or phrase. Thus, effective keyword selection is one of the cornerstones of search engine optimization.

Each keyword is characterized by supply (number of search engine result pages) and demand (number of searches). The easiest way to improve search engine rank is to select keywords that have favorable supply-demand characteristics; that is, ones with a relatively high demand and a relatively low supply. It is much more difficult to improve the search engine position of a page on a high supply, competitive keyword.

Good keywords must be relevant to your product line, as well as your line of business. A #1 rank for "navy widgets" is worthless if you sell taupe widgets exclusively. A potential customer will find your page, quickly discover that you don't sell any navy widgets, and promptly go elsewhere. In effect, the conversion rate for irrelevant search engine hits is very close to zero.

Using Keywords Effectively

Choosing a set of target keywords is the first step in search engine optimization. The second step is using them in the body, title, headings, and meta-tags of a page.

Include the target keywords in the text of the page. Don't overdo it, though --- the keywords should fit smoothly into the surrounding text. Search engines use several techniques to detect excessive keyword density, or too many keywords stuffed into very little supporting text, and will reduce the rank accordingly. A page has too many keywords if they interfere with the general flow of the text on a page and appear to be glaringly out of place

The title tag should contain information that describes the page. Unless you operate a multi-national conglomerate that is already a household name, your company's name is not a descriptive title. Most search engines use the title tag as the first line of your listing in the search engine result pages. Strive to make your title tag say "click me" to a prospective customer. "Superior taupe widgets - 50% off every day" is a good page title, while "Ultimate Taupe Widgets, Inc." is not.

Incorporate keywords into the headings on the page, as well as into emphasized sections (bold or large text). Even though search engines are de-emphasizing descriptive meta-tags, include keywords in them nevertheless. The description meta-tag should have an accurate description of your page, and the keywords meta-tag should contain a set of keywords (separated by commas) that list key concepts mentioned on the page.

Understanding the basics of search engine optimization is an important first step in creating an optimized, well-positioned web site.

What Is Keyword Density And Why Is It Important?

When trying to optimize your website, you hear a lot about Keyword Density. It is a very important part of Search Engine Optimization (SEO), which is the process of getting your site a high rank on Google and similar search engines. This article will help you determine what Keyword Density is, and how you can use it to optimize your site for search engines.

Definition

Keyword Density just means what percentage of your content consists of your target keywords. So if you want someone to search Google for "dog grooming tips" to find your blog on dog grooming (for example), your main keyword would be "dog grooming tips". So if 18 out of 200 words in the main content on your website's homepage are part of the phrase "dog grooming tips", then you have a 9% keyword density.

Importance

Keywords help search engines like Google find your website based on people's searches. Continuing with the dog grooming example, when someone searches for "dog grooming tips", Google tries to find the most relevant pages. And how does it measure relevance? It is a combination of backlinks, which is a whole different ballgame (number of sites which have links to your site), and keyword matching. It uses the keywords in your main content to determine what your site is about. So if your site says "dog grooming tips" five times on the front page, Google is more likely to pick it up as a good result to show someone searching for "dog grooming tips".

What now?

Now that you understand Keyword Density, you should try to adhere to the following standard: keep it between 3% and 20%. It is important that your content contains your keyword at least a few times. If your content is 300 words (an appropriate length) and your keyword is the three-word phrase "dog grooming tips", you should mention that phrase at least 3 times and at most 20 times. But be sure to make sure your content is still readable - nobody is going to stay on your site if you just say "dog grooming tips dog grooming tips dog grooming tips" over and over! Your content needs to be readable and informative, but center around your keywords.

SEO Tips to Improve Your Rankings

I would like to share with you a few tips to make your site SEO friendly and to score better with no minimum SEO skills on your end. Positioning on search engines can rely exclusively but not wholly to a few critical factors known as onsite (internal SEO) and offsite (external SEO). Internal SEO can be all the content your website contains from navigation building, text, images, layout, structure and more) Below are a few factors that can help your site to score better with no minimum SEO skills on your end.

Keyword selection and research

Take all the time available to research for all your keywords and phrases to use for your SEO campaign; keywords that best describes your area of business, products/services you are trying to promote.

Amount of text per page

Search Engines love pages with a broad content. A website with a long text content and information is in a good chance to get a better ranking than a competitor website with poor content. It is best advised that you can increase your content and text up to 2000 words per page. Write as much as you can about your business, services and use at least 3-4 times the keywords that you are targeting.

Keyword Density

Keyword density is a combination of the number of times a keyword or a phrase appears on your page. The more times the keyword is repeated on your page, the more will its density will be. In a 100 word content, a keyword that repeats 6 times counts 6% in density. The less the density is means that search engine will ignore the term in a search on the particular keyword or phrase. It is best advised to keep your keyword density between 5-7%. Anything over can flag as spam, best known as keyword stuffing

Title and "Alt" Tags in images

When it comes to images used in your website, search engines do not have the ability to read images so it is very important to keep a clear and descriptive title on all your images used in your website, typically in a one sentence of 20-30 characters if possible.

Use text for navigation

As i previously said, search engines do not have the ability to read image content to your website. If your navigation menu consists of images for any reason, search engines will not be able to index the text used on images and it's links. It is best advised to build your navigation with text links instead of pictures.

Use a Breadcrumb Trail (Internal Navigation) for every page created

Breadcrumb Trail is a navigation aid that gives users a way to keep track of their location within a website. Using Breadcrumb trails on all pages is a clearcut, standardized way of backtracking from any page, back to the homepage or reversed. You follow the breadcrumb trail back home, so to speak. This is a great way of "explaining" your site structure to Google and other search engines. A breadcrumb Trail helps to keep your website well organized and structured to search engines

Choose a keyword rich domain to use for your website

Choosing a keyword rich domain related to your targeted keywords can be another significant and important tip to achieve better rankings on search engines. Search engines tend to trigger keywords used in your metatags (keywords, description, title) but also in your domain used for your website as well. Go and search for a term or keyword in Google or any other search engine and you will notice that some of your results are triggered exclusively on their domains used rather than their description and titles instead.

Header Tags

Header tags are heading tags in HTML that search engines pay critical attention to them. There are 6 predifined headings, ranging from to which tells a visitor and search engines the topic of the web page. It is best advised that you highlight your main titles and assign a header tag on each giving priority to your main title where H1 and H2 are the strongest and most significant header tags to use in SEO. It is also recommended that you use keywords in your headings for maximum visibility and exposure of your primary targeted keywords.

Avoid Hidden Text

Hidden text is when a text has a similar color to your background color and in result it is invisible to humans to see but visible to search spiders to read. Due to an increase use of hidden text by spammers to increase and boost their keyword triggers on a search, all major engines changed their policy when it comes to hidden text crawls. Consequently, the use of hidden text may result in banning your site from any search engine and should be avoided.

Every website needs to have a high page rank in search engine results and to achieve this result; a website not only needs to contain good and creative content, but also needs to build link popularity. In any search engine submission, one of the most important factors is your link popularity, which may be achieved through directory submission.

The latest concept in the field of directory submission for increasing page ranking is bid directory. The method is quite useful and the popularity if the link increases tremendously. But one has to be really careful and thoughtful while using the method of web directory. The major difference between traditional web directories and bid directories lies in the fact that, the earlier had listing criteria that used to involve listing date, alphabetical order etc. However, the latter gives lesser priority to the above mentioned points. To get a high position in page ranking one has to bid and the highest bid is located at the top.

The home page of the web directory consists of the highest bidding web links and thus, the benefit to any business website listed on the same is obvious. The advantages of bidding for a place in a web directory are:

o The search engines regard such websites which have a link from any other website to your home page much more. It shows that your website has been chosen by many. Another important feature to remember is that if the page rank of that website which connects to your home page is higher, then your web page's significance will automatically increase. Link popularity plays a major role in search engine submission and optimization.

o A bid directory has the upper hand from the web directory as many users may just follow the link and come to your web site. Better visible links always have higher bids. The traditional method of linking the links on the other hand is normally almost hidden in various categories, and their visibility diminishes.

In today's world which is constantly evolving and becoming competitive with each passing day, it's really important to have the upper hand in the competitive market. How To Find The Correct Keywords

To get your website found by the S.E, you need to adopt a well planned marketing strategy, however one thing to keep in mind is that you should not rely solely on S.E as your primary source of traffic.

Keyword research is critical if you want to have a successful blog or website, if you want people to find your website and you want your web visitors to be interested in what you have to sell.

Check on your Competition.

How to Find the right keywords and phrases, can be daunting, The trick is to start slowly.

Another quick method of how to find keywords is to let the search engines gather the results for you. You can spot what your competition is doing in order to gain the top rankings in your market, also pay attention to the keyword placement on their sites.

Another shortcut on how to find keywords can be found with tools like seodigger.com and spyfu.com. Seodigger allows you to identify the phrases that competitors are ranking for organically and SpyFu displays what phrases are being used with Pay Per Click advertising.

The first step in this process is to create a list of potential keywords. Brainstorm all the words you think a customer would type into their search box when trying to find your website. This includes thinking of phrases that are broad and targeted, single and multi-word.

Have a look at your competitor's Meta Keyword tag. What words are they targeting? How can you expand on their keyword list to make yours better?

Keyword Anchor Text Can Improve Your Backlinks

Whenever you write an article or blog post you should ensure that you include good anchor text backlinks. But what does the term anchor text mean? This text is simply the words that you use in order to get the person to clink on the hyperlink.

It is important to understand that the words that you place within the anchor text, can actually determine the ranking of the page within the search engines. Unfortunately many people tend to use the phrase click here, this in an extremely poor attempt at writing the link and will not help the page to get ranked.

The anchor link is therefore a good way to get your website to rank higher and should include the main keywords that relate to your website. You will need to research the keywords and be experimental when choosing your anchor text backlinks.

Anchor links tends to be under sixty characters in length. An important tip to remember is that you should not use the same anchor text over and over. This will look unprofessional, especially if you write a number or different articles and blog posts and use it a couple of times in each one. Your targeted audience will become bored of reading the same phrase, plus Google does not favour the repeated use of the same anchor text backlinks.

It is therefore important that you learn to diversify your links and make them appear more professional. It is also important that you avoid using too many links on your website, especially if you combine it with your SEO efforts as this can be easily regarded as spam. A couple of relevant backlinks is good enough to get your site recognised by the various search engines.

If you successfully use anchor text and search engine optimization then the search engines will pick up on this. They will then rank your website higher in accordance with the keyword that you are using. In doing so, you will be able to gain extra exposure and website traffic, which in turn will lead to a better level of income.

A good tip to remember is to think like a customer. If your website text and anchor text looks as though they have been just thrown into the blog post or article, then how can you expect them to take you seriously? Even the search engines will doubt your professionalism and rank you lower.

If you share my passion on internet marketing then take a look at my website http://www.jonathan-jenkins.com to discover more about this subject, plus many others.

Why Anchor Text Could Be The Most Important Aspect Of SEO

Anchor text is perhaps one of the most important aspects of Search Engine Optimization but it is also one of the least talked about. This one element of SEO is important to understand because it can help your page get ranked for a target keyword and also help you evaluate your competition more precisely. The latter is critical and, in fact, if you don't take the text in backlinks into proper consideration when looking at the competition for a keyword you could be missing out on some hidden gems that are easy to rank for.

What Is Anchor Text?

This is the hyperlinked text you see on a webpage. It is the visible words that you can click to take you to another page. Anchor text HTML code looks like this:

<a href="http://www.yoursite.com">Your Anchor</a>

On most websites, you typically see this as blue text that is underlined and when you click on it with your mouse, you are taken to the corresponding URL.

How Bloggers Use It

Bloggers and website owners use anchors naturally to point to other pages on their website as well as pages on other sites that they find relevant to what they are blogging about. You've probably even done this yourself when writing a post where you referenced another post on your site, an affiliate product or even a post on another site.

Usually a blogger will use a phrase that indicates what the page is about in the anchor, as opposed to a URL, so that the sentence reads correctly.

The anchor text in these links helps both the visitor and the search engine spiders figure out what the 'linked to" page is about.

How Search Engines Use It

Search engines use this text to help them figure out what the hyperlinked page is about. So, as you can see, getting anchor text backlinks with relevant phrases in the anchor is pretty important if you want the search engines to rank you for a particular keyword phrase.

In fact, anchor text is such an important factor in ranking a page that pages can rank for a keyword phrase even when that phrase does not appear in the URL on on the page!

There are several cases where this has happened, but perhaps the most famous is where the Adobe Reader download page ranked #1 for the search term "click here" for many years even though those words were nowhere on the page. So many people had linked to that page using the text "click here" that it got to the #1 spot without any on page SEO for the term.

Search engines place a large importance on external anchor text (links coming in from other sites) and some importance on internal text (links from within your own site) when ranking a page so it stands to reason that you should make getting anchor text backlinks with your target keyword phrases a priority.

One important thing to note is that it is widely thought that if two links on the same page target the same URL, that only the first link is counted by Google so you want to be sure that you use your desired text in that first link.

How This Is Important When Judging Competition For A Keyword

If you think about how important anchor text is to the search engines when determining ranking for a keyword, then it's easy to see why it is a critical component of analyzing the competition for a particular keyword phrase.

Google even provides you with a search operator to do this - the allinanchor operator. You can use it by typing the following into the Google search bar:

Allinanchor:"your keyword phrase"

This will return the pages which have anchor text pointing to it that contain the quoted keyword phrase.

I hope you can see how powerful this is - first of all, Google must think it is an important element of a page because it provides the allinanchor operator. Just the existence of the operator would seem to indicate that it uses the anchor text when deciding what a page is about and ranking it. Secondly, using this operator will show you which pages are optimizing for your chosen keyword phrase!

It makes sense that only the pages that have anchor text backlinks with your phrase are the ones optimizing for it so you can forget about searching for your phrase in quotes or any of that non-sense. Not only that but, you can take a look at the actual backlinks for each of your competitors and see how many of them have that anchor text and what the strength of those links are to make a more educated guess as to how difficult they will be to beat out for that top spot.

Anchor Text "Best Practices" For Your Website

Now that you know how important anchor text is to your rankings, I'm sure you will want to pay more attention to it in your SEO efforts but you don't want to go hog wild and create tons of anchor text backlinks all with the same keyword phrase or you might find that your efforts don't yield the results you want. Here are some things to consider:

1. Vary Your Anchor Text - We all know that Google prefers it when people link to you naturally and when that is the case, they don't all use the same text when linking. So, when you are linking to your site from your articles or web2.0 properties you want to make sure you don't always use the same phrase as well. Using your target phrase in about 50% - 60% of the links is probably a good idea.

2. Links From Relevant Pages - For the best results, you want your backlinks to come from pages that are related to the topic because this is what would happen naturally if people were linking to you because you had great content it would most likely be from a blog post on the same topic.

3. First Link On Page - Don't forget that Google only counts the text from the first link that it sees so if you will have more than one link to the same URL on a page, act accordingly.

4. Plan For Natural Linking - There's nothing better than having people just naturally link to one of your posts but, of course, you can't control the anchor text they use when they do. Since most people will naturally use your headline for linking, you want to be sure to consider that when coming up with the title for your blog posts.

Anchor text is crucial to both your SEO efforts as well as when analyzing the competition for a keyword phrase. Taking the time to use it properly can be the difference between ranking in the top 3 and not ranking at all so it's in your best interest to use this important aspect of SEO wisely!
